To the Special Needs Parents

I know it's tough. The long nights, doctor's appointments, therapy sessions, evaluations, supplements, medicine trials, transitions...all of it. It's tough. Being a parent is tough already, but being a parent to a child with extra or "special" needs is "especially" tough.
"Tell them about Me," I hear the Spirit of the Lord whisper. "Tell them about Me."
Jesus wants to partner with you, momma and daddy. He wants to be there every step of the way, guiding you, consoling you, holding you, and yes...healing you, as you navigate this life through the lens of the special needs. His heart was and always will be for the broken-hearted, those beat down in spirit, and for children. Children are Jesus' jam, to put it lightly. When His disciples scolded the parents of children for bringing them to Jesus, He set them straight!
Jesus said, “Leave the little children alone, and don't try to keep them from coming to me, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
So, what's up with this kingdom and why is it a big deal? Well, first...I'm no bible scholar. I didn't even know where this was gonna go as I sat out to write it. All I heard in my spirit was, "Tell them about Me" and "start writing". So, now that we've established that I'm not a theologian, I'll tell you...I get my intel from the Holy Spirit. And as I'm typing, He's developing this blog. So, what's up with this kingdom and why is it a big deal?
Well, we already know Jesus wants the children to be allowed to come to him. But, why? According to Mark 10:16, "He took the children in his arms, placed His hands on them and blessed them." Jesus blessed the children. (If He did it then, He will do it now.) He laid his hands on them and blessed them. In many other places in Scripture, He lays hands on people and they are healed. Either way you look at it, if Jesus is laying His hands on your child, it's a good thing. Healing comes, blessing flows, and it's His desire to do these things. But you gotta lead the way.
Our kids need us to get them to His feet. We are their examples, their blueprints for life...if you will. They see us live and they follow in our footsteps. If we want healing and blessing for our children, we've got to make sure our footsteps are leading them to Jesus. Momma, daddy...Jesus wants to do a mighty work in your life and the lives of your children but you've got to be willing to walk toward Him...bringing the children to Him so they can receive their blessing.
Just think about it, what a selfless thing...parents bringing children to Jesus en masse. I'm willing to speculate they weren't bringing the healthy and wealthy kids to Jesus. That goes against logic. The healthy and wealthy have a harder time coming to His feet. That's in the Bible, too. If I were a parent 2000 years ago, I'd likely not travel days by foot or donkey to bring my healthy child to Jesus for a touch. But as a parent of a special needs child now, I can tell you with everything in me...I'd go by donkey, horse, foot, train, plane, buggy, and maybe even a DeLorean for the chance to have Jesus lay His hands on my child.
Good thing I don't have to. If you have been saved, if you've accepted Jesus to be your Savior...He's taken up residence in you and according to Paul, "If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you." (Romans 8:11) Let's say that again. The same Spirit that brought Jesus back from the dead (which is widely accepted worldwide as being a real thing that happened, not a fairytale)...if that Spirit lives inside of the parents (you) and brings life to YOUR body, then when you lay hands on your children (bringing them to Him), a transfer of life and vitality and blessing can take place. Lofty thought for those that have been in the trenches for a while, I know...but WHAT IF IT'S TRUE?! What if coming to the feet of the King, asking Him to guide your life and help you as a parent is the start of a healing journey for your child?
What if?
What do you have to lose? If you're like us and have chased down every doctor, every diagnosis, every intervention, every supplement, and everything the internet and ChatGPT are telling you is available, what do you stand to lose? Pride? There is no room for pride when your child's healing is at stake. There is no room to think of yourself when your child needs a touch, a blessing from Jesus. Those parents found a way to Him. We should be like them and do the same.
I repeat, there's no room for pride when your child needs Jesus. And your child needs Jesus. We all do, but if you're a special needs parent...hear me well, YOUR CHILD NEEDS JESUS in their life. And you as their parent get the awesome privilege of bringing them to Him for blessing and healing. He picked you to be their parents before the foundation of the world. (also in Scripture, Google it.) You're reading this right now because He wants you know He's in this with you, if you'll make room for Him. He's good, faithful, kind, generous, loving...He's the best friend I've always wanted and I finally have and He's telling me to tell you all of this. If you want to know more about how to walk this walk with Jesus, shoot me a message. I'm not saying I have it figured out, but I've been doing it for a few years now with Him and there's no way I could do this life without Him.
So, what's up this kingdom and why is it a big deal? THERE'S HEALING IN THIS KINGDGOM.
"Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you." Luke 10:9
This kingdom changes EVERYTHING. He told me to tell you, "I'm ready when you are".
And for the parents that haven't said "YES" to Jesus...but want more than this world has to offer, are tired of doing it alone, tired of the brokenness, the muck, the funk, the junk...He's ready when you are. Reading this today wasn't a coincidence, it was an invitation into His glorious light and life! Shoot me a message!
